Gary Wittner has been performing throughout the United States and Europe for over 2 decades. He has worked with numerous jazz greats (including Christian McBride, Clark Terry and Eddie Gomez), has performed Pop music  (Leslie Gore, Little Anthony) and Blues, Reggae and Latin music in numerous settings.  He leads a trio featuring Howard Johnson on tuba which has released 2 CD’s - “Roadway” (1999) and “Now We’re Here” (2003). Gary’s compositions have been performed internationally and he has been selected twice as a U. S. Department of State Jazz Ambassador, performing at the Kennedy Center and touring Serbia/Montenegro/Slovenia (2001), and Fiji/Papua New Guinea (2003).

An acknowledged authority on the music and life of Thelonious Monk, Gary has presented all-Monk concerts for over 2 decades at colleges, clubs and festivals in the USA, Canada, England, France, Austria, Russia, and Poland.  Currently the jazz guitar instructor at the University of Southern Maine School of Music and Bowdoin College, Gary’s first book, ”Thelonious Monk For Guitar”, was published in 1999 by Hal Leonard.  Additional articles have appeared in Guitar Player Magazine, Coda, and the International Association of Jazz Educator’s Journal.
